Becoming a Journey Church Volunteer Team Member
We are so excited that you are ready to jump in and make a next step by starting to serve here at Journey Church! Here at Journey, we Explore God. Journey Together. We believe that we are all broken people journeying together following the perfect God. So, as we all work together and play our part in God's kingdom; together, we will accomplish His plans and purposes in our community and throughout the world.
Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve. - Col. 3:24-25 AMP
We honestly believe that everything we do each week (from working with kids, to greeting at the door, to putting out fresh hot coffee, to data-entry and administrative tasks mid-week) is work that we do to honor God and to help create environments where people can come to meet Jesus and grow in relationship with Him. Our heartbeat is to connect people to Jesus and people to people.
Please take a moment to watch this short video that Pastor Ken made for you.
You will play an important key role in that mission as you begin serving here at Journey. We need people who are willing to do whatever it takes to create a safe environment when people can encounter the presence of Jesus and the love of God. As a Journey Volunteer Team Member, we are counting on you to be: Teachable, Exceptional, & Reliable.
Teachable & Approachable
We value when individuals are teachable & approachable. It’s a relief when we can ask volunteers for things or suggest ideas for improvement and know that it isn’t going to cause stress in either individual. Being teachable is one of the key characteristics we look for in potential leaders.
Exceptional & Can-Do
It's a breath of fresh air when we can trust the "can-do" / "I'll make it happen" attitude and not have to be intense with follow up. We also love when people are exceptional, when they go above and beyond, like making an extra little craft to help the kids "get" the lesson. Or, not just greeting someone, but connecting with them throughout the week.
Reliable & Consistent
We appreciate consistent, reliable volunteers. Consistent, as in, week in and week out, our staff and volunteer leaders know what to expect. Reliable, as in, being on time, responding quickly to emails or messages, and when you say you’ll do something, we know you’ll do it.
Here at Journey we use an awesome online program that helps us to stay organize, to schedule team members and to quickly get vital information to all of our teams. As a team member we are counting on you to learn Church Community Builder (CCB) to communicate regarding schedules. Please watch this brief introduction to responding to scheduling requests with CCB.
